$20 prom!

by Jean
(Pennsylvania)

I should qualify this just a tiny bit. Since my daughter goes to a Christian school, they don’t actually have prom and they do have some firm guidelines about how modestly to dress for the "banquet." That said, this year's theme is Old Hollywood and glamour is definitely in!

So, I'm wandering through a local thrift shop and found an elegant navy cocktail dress with beading around the neck. I bet that my daughter would find it acceptable and, surprise, she did! Her budget is extremely tight and we're not putting out big money for this, either! The dress was $15 and will only need to have the high slit lowered. The halter/sleeveless neckline is fine. It fits great – though I thought we might have to hem it up.

Yesterday, I went into a Goodwill that was on my path. Had to be very strict with myself since I can drop a good bit of cash even on thrift clothes! I went in and found dressy silver shoes in her size, with the heel height she thought she needed. These, too, are acceptable! Wonders never cease.

She's borrowing my beaded clutch purse but has now decided her friend's gloves are too long (above the elbow), but I’ve seen a whole mess of gloves at a nearby thrift shop. So far, we’ve spent $20. I expect the gloves may, in the end, take us closer to $25. For a glamorous, elegant prom/banquet outfit!!
