A Great Book Find

by Jane H.
(Bemidji, MN)

One time a friend and I went shopping, and we went to thrift stores and clothing depots, which was a different experience for me. I'm a reader and a book collector, and I grew up listening to grandparents and other relatives who were fluent in Norwegian and Swedish.

I didn't find any clothing, but I did find an old book of essays in Norwegian by author Ole Rolvaag, who wrote "Giants in the Earth", one of the first stories of the American West. Ole was a college professor in Minnesota and his son Karl was governor of the state. The book was in good condition and I paid about a dime or a quarter for it.

At the same time I bought a very nice wooden box with a hinge and an antique wooden potato masher. I felt I got a good buy.
