Antique Typewriter for $5 - Score!

by Ian

I love to browse garage sales (it is one of my favorite things about spring and summer).

I am constantly finding awesome bargains and great items. One item, however, topped my garage sale finds.

I was browsing a sale in my neighborhood one May and I came across a table with a typewriter on it. It was an huge, old machine. It also looked like it could have been an antique (and worth some value). It was extremely heavy (40-50 pounds) and I had no way of knowing the price (the tag was on the bottom).

I asked the owner about it, and she asked me how interested in it I was. After assuring her I was, indeed, interested, she offered it to me for five dollars! Five DOLLARS! I took the offer immediately, and had help loading it into my car.

I later found out, after taking it to a dealer, that the machine was an original antique and was worth several hundred dollars.

I have never found anything that valuable at a garage sale before, nor have I found such since, but trust me, I keep looking!
