Cutting Down our Power Bill

by B
(Fort Walton Beach, FL)

Not too long ago, my fiance and I discovered that we really needed to cut down on our power bill. It was really starting to put a dent on our monthly expense account. So we decided to start with some "green steps" first.

The very first thing we did was to purchase some of those fluorescent incandescent bulbs. You know, the ones that are supposed to save energy and reduce the amount of energy that it takes to light up a room. We changed every bulb in our house.

Then we cut back on our television time. We made a schedule so that we wouldn't be running both televisions at the same time. We unplugged the one in the spare bedroom and we take turns with the one in the main living room. We now unplug it when we don't use it.

We turn off the lights when we don't use them.

We don't heat up the oven for just us. Instead I got an Electric Skillet that is energy efficient and I can cook a lot of my casseroles in it instead of heating up the entire oven.

Now we have a power bill that runs right at $100 per month.
