Electricity Saving a Family Affair

by Gwyneth
(Cardiff, Wales)

Everyone who owns a television or radio or has a job for that matter has constantly come in contact with this spiralling recession.

Saving money is one of the easiest and practical ways to help ride out this financial furlong, and we can begin with strategies as close to home as the switches we flick. Reducing the amount of electricity we use at home made a great impact on our savings and a huge reduction in our bill.

Firstly, we began by implementing simple strategies such as turning off lights in the rooms we were not occupying at the time, allocating one or two days only per week to do laundry to cut back on washing machine electricity. and switching to energy saving bulbs in all our rooms(these are often cheaper than regular bulbs).

We have even gotten our children involved by supervising computer usage and ensuring they do not leave their laptops running. We also encourage the kids to decide what they need from the fridge before opening the door- this avoids extra energy consumption when the fridge is left open.

In addition, we remember to never leave the iron idling, sweep instead of vacuuming some days in the week and keep the heating level steady.

Finally, regarding the television, which is one of the biggest energy users in the home, we try to find other forms of recreation such as reading and outdoor activities.

Trust us, if you use these energy savvy solutions you will be pleasantly pleased with your monthly bills.
