How to Save Money on Food in the Kitchen
by A Gardener
1. Often we try to save money by buying cheap, canned or frozen goods but really you are not getting great value for the money you are spending. Why not test out your green thumb and try growing your own veggies. Not everyone has room to plant a crop of potatoes - but if you do, go for it!
If you have limited space you can still grow things like tomatoes and peppers indoors. Experiment and in time you will find that you CAN produce at least some of your own fresh grown produce.
2. Be careful when you see a great sale. Before grabbing it, ask yourself if this is something you would normally buy or if you are just doing it because it was on sale.
3. Pay attention to what you have in your crisper drawers. If you don't you can lose money by letting it spoil.
4. Be a meal planner. You don't have to be totally anal and meticulous but it really does help you with your shopping when you have an idea what you will be eating for the week.
5. Don't keep running back to the store. The more you go, the more you spend! Try to plan 2 large grocery trips a month - eventually it will become second nature to get just what you need so you aren't always running back for another jug of milk or carton of eggs.
