Over Inflate Tires, and Remove Back Seat

by Derek
(Forest Hills, NY)

Hi, I'm going to tell you how I went from 39 miles per gallon to 46+ miles per gallon. I drive a 4 cylinder, 2 door 2000 Mitsubishi Mirage with 250,000+ miles.

I replaced the original tires with the next size taller tires. I over inflate the pressure by 6 pounds.

I calculated that by over inflating the pressure I would be saving more than enough gas money to purchase a new set of tires every two years.

Since my car is a small 2 door I removed the back seat completely (that saved me 45 pounds).

My town is laid out in square blocks that mostly consists of 4 way stops. I found out that the distance between the stop signs is such that when I take off from one corner
I accelerate to 20 miles per hour then I put my car in neutral and coast to the next corner.

This not only saves you gas money but reduces break replacement cost. I coast down hills when ever I can.

I purchase no more than 4 gallons of gas at any one time.

By doing all of these things I regularly get 46+ miles per gallon but I have gotten as much as 50 miles per gallon.
