Plastic Wrap Your Windows

by Michael
(Tulsa, OK)

If you want to save money on home heating during the winter, be sure that all of your windows are well insulated.

Doors and windows are the biggest places to lose heat in your home, and most places tend to have a lot more windows than doors!

One option that works well is to use plastic window coverings, sold in stores like Wal-mart or Target.

These plastic sheets get stuck around the outside edge of windows, so they form an air pocket barrier between the cold window and the warmth of your home. You use a hair dryer to shrink-wrap the plastic, so once you’re done, you can barely even see it! This works very well for containing the damage done by drafty windows in the bitter cold of winter.

A pack that covers 3 windows is very cheap, and can probably be found for around $10.

If you go this route, be sure to seal up all the windows tight. It won’t do you much good to seal off all the windows but one, only to have all your heat escape out this one exit.
