Put a Pricetag on EVERYTHING

by Alexandra

I think the most important thing I have learned when having a garage sale is to make sure EVERYTHING has a price tag!

The most disappointing sale I ever had was done as a fundraiser for my church, and instead of labeling items with prices, we posted a sign advising people to donate whatever they thought their items were worth.

We quickly found out that people will leave without buying before they will name their own price in most cases.

We actually ended up doing the donating that weekend, we donated almost all of our belongings to a non-profit group that came and picked it up!

The next sale I had, we labeled every single item and more than doubled our profits!

I also think your presentation and organization of items is very important.

In my neighborhood, most people just cruise by VERY slowly in their vehicles, and if they can't see what is on your tables or displayed around them, they don't even stop to check things out.

On the other hand, if I take the time to put like things together, and make sure there is enough space between them that they are visible from the road, most of the time people will check it out even if they end up leaving without a purchase.
