Save Money and Still Have a Scream

Having a Halloween party is fun and doesn’t have to be expensive.

There are easy ways to save money and still have a scream.

Select a small group of friends and send online invitations. Evite is a good site that lets you enter your guest list and choose from a few different invitation designs.

For friends that don’t have the internet, find online printable invitations and mail or hand deliver if you plan to see them.

A few pumpkins on the porch look great and are pretty cheap. You can buy them in various sizes and colors.

Take 3 pumpkins of various sizes and stack like a snow man. For the smallest pumpkin (the head) paint a spooky face or carve out a jack o’ lantern. Use black and orange construction paper to make bats, witch hats, crows, black cats, and whatever else your imagination dreams up. There are lots of online templates that you can print out and trace.

For a game, cut a pumpkin shape out or a black cat and play pin the nose on the pumpkin, or tail on the cat. You can use double sided tape to stick the tail on.

Punch is an economical drink to serve.

Mix up a large can of fruit punch with 24 ounces of apple cider for the kids. For adults, add 2 cups rum. Garnish with fruit, or use the old hand in the bowl trick.

Just fill up a clean rubber glove with water and freeze. Stick it in the bowl for a scary effect and also to keep the punch cold.

Have a pot luck party with friends bringing their favorite dish, or serve up a few simple snacks. Cut up vegetables and serve with ranch dip, make little smokies in the crockpot, using a bottle of cheap barbeque sauce and a tablespoon or two of grape jelly.

Buy a bag of tortilla chips and serve with salsa or cheese dip.
