Thrift store treasure: $12,000 painting

by Katrina
(Chillicothe, Ohio, United States)

I do shop thrift stores for things to resale and collect.

Over the years I have found some great and rare things worth lots of money and top of the line furniture and clothing.

The best thing I ever found was a 2x2 painting of horses on a bridge over a stream. I got it cause I liked it for $5 dollars.

It hung on my wall for 3 years and one day a friends dad came over and seen it hanging. He said do you even know what that is you got? No I replied it's a painting I got from a Goodwill store.

His eyes got real big as I said I paid $5 dollars for it. He looked at me in awe and asked if I'd like to make 4 Thousand dollars right now by selling him this painting I got for $5 dollars at a thrift store.

So I did sell it. Few weeks passed and I seen my friend again at his job. He said did you know that painting was worth 15 thousand dollars done by a famous Italian artist in the 1800's?

I almost had a stroke as his father showed me the bill of sale that he sold it at a art fair for 12 thousand dollars.

Not only did I score the biggest score ever I learned a lesson just because it came from a thrift store don't make it scond hand.

Sometimes it's first class Art.

Also I have found lots of collector dishes and glassware like McCoy,Hummel.

My view is another person's unwanted items could be hidden Treasure to the knowing eye.

Now I take my time and look over everything I buy from thrift stores. Cause sometimes you find the whole treasure chest plus some, and might not even know that a dollar item you buy is a gold piece to someone else.
