Use Coupons and Rainchecks for extra grocery savings

My mother actually taught me one of the best methods to getting extended store specials, especially on hot items.

This strategy generally only works part of the time, because two things need to happen.

Firstly, you need to have a coupon, or multiple as the case may be, for the product you want to buy.

Secondly, the product needs to be sold out. When a product is sold out, you can go to the supermarket's customer service and get a rain check for the product you want to buy.

A rain check essentially lets you buy the same product at the coupon price at any time, even after the coupon has expired (the rain check has a separate expiration date). It is a guarantee you will get the product whenever it is restocked.

Thankfully, this actually happens quite often, and is a nifty trick for saving money.

If you are clever, you can actually pick up multiple rain checks by stopping by separate customer service desks, or at different times of the day. For example, I like the cereal cookie crisp.

My mother happened to have several coupons for it, and it was out of stock. She was able to get a years worth of rain checks for cookie crisp using this strategy. Good luck!
