Use Night Time Warmers to Keep Heating Bill Down

by B
(Fort Walton Beach, FL)

I used to have the biggest problem with increased heating bills during the winter. My power bill would sky rocket. I just couldn't stand to be so could during the winter.

Of course, I do live in Florida, so it doesn't get much colder than about 15 during the worst part of the winter - so this advise might not work for everyone.

During the winter I find that these are a few things that I was able to do to keep warm.

I dress warmer. Long pants. Long sleeves. Always, always wear socks- and sometimes wear two pairs. I put at a minimum two thick blankets on the beds.

Before the winter I make sure that I have plenty of what I call my night time warmers ready. I make them for friends and family, too. They are great for gifts.

Simply take a pair of sweat pants or socks - I use new ones for gifts - or clean old ones for myself. I fill them with rice.

Then, I can pop them in the microwave for about two minutes before I go to bed. I make two of them. One for the foot of my bed and one for under my pillow. These will keep me warm while my sheets warm up like a cocoon around me and I will stay warm almost all night.

That way I can keep the thermostat set at a cooler temperature and not have to keep the house as warm during the night. It has saved me a ton of money on heating costs.
