Use Your Fireplace, and Get Some Exercise
by Ninon
Many of us have been there – in fact I’m right there now – cash is a little tight, winter is approaching, and you can’t believe the cost of your last energy bill, let alone your next one. Well, here are a few tips that may just bring down those costs. Remember – even if it doesn’t sound like much, if a tip saves just a few pennies or cents a day, that saves up to a few pounds or dollars off each bill. Firstly, do you have a fireplace? If so, get everybody to use that room, and just heat that room! A gas fireplace uses far less energy than your central heating. You can even buy a small electric radiator cheaply – though be careful about exactly how much electricity they use. If you have a gas cooker, turn it off at any point you are not using it – it comes in the same bill remember. It might seem obvious or silly, but try wearing more clothes – wear jumpers indoors, and use a pair of slippers. You might find you can then get away with turning the temperature down a bit more. Get some exercise! If you leave the house every evening and walk for a few hours, you won’t have to heat your house during that time. Keep those lights turned off, except for the room you’re in, of course.
