Warming up a Flat or Apartment

by Donna
(Ipswich, UK)

If you have an option regarding who and how is the heat provided (do you have a gas heater or central heating...).

You can possibly invest in a new heater or compare the companies offering the central heating in your building. If you have a heater in the flat that you can control, you can turn it off for the day while you are at work, or during the night.

Use a lot of carpets and rugs on floors because they insulate a bit. Also make sure your windows are well insulated to prevent loosing heat through those.

Investing a bit in having more window layers (3 to 4) and good insulation pays itself back in a couple winters.

Finally, you could turn of heating in the flat and get a small movable electric heater and keep it in the room you are occupying and only when you are at home of course, but this only works for small flats.
