Water Every Other Day

by Louise
(Nepean, ON)

I'm an avid gardener and especially love container gardening. I live in a town that has enforced water bans for many weeks every summer. This means that I can only use water for watering outdoor plants every other day and only during certain periods of the day.

Since the water bans occur when the weather is hot and dry, it can be difficult to keep containers of plants and flowers looking pretty and healthy. One thing I've done to work around this problem is to use the water that gets collected in the dehumidifier that I run to keep my basement dry. It collects about two gallons every day which I then use to water my hanging baskets of flowers and such. I feel it's a win/win since I'm keeping my plants healthy, and using "free" water to do it!
